During the height of the COVID 19 pandemic, 167 volunteers prepared more than 600 000 cooked meals at 6 POP centres. These volunteers are our 2020 COVID 19 #unsung_heroes.
They did not get paid for the work. Their love for their communities motivated them to risk their health to ensure that all hungry people had a plate of food to eat. Some of the community members were kind and appreciated the gift of generosity, others unfortunately were unkind and filled with complaints.
Despite their hardships the volunteers kept on going, working long hours in front of a stove, ensuring that all safety regulations were adhered to and making sure that there was enough food for everyone in need.
Our team had a deep desire to celebrate these volunteers’ contributions. This is why we invited our volunteers to the Goedgedacht farm, where they were spoiled with comfortable accommodation, delicious food and a programme where they could share the highlights and lowlights of their volunteers’ experience, laugh together, dance and enjoy unwinding.
A big thank you to our team members, Sophie, Marise, Ona, Anna, Shanice and all the POP centre managers for making this special day possible.
