Yesterday, 14 June 2018, was a great day for the Path out of Poverty (POP) programme: The 9th POP Youth Centre opened in Porterville.
The centre was officially opened by Minister Gwede Mantashe, the Managing Director of PPC Mr Njombo Lekula and the Mayor of the Bergrivier Municipality Ms Sandra Crafford.
Minister Mantashe was the keynote speaker and made reference to the importance of looking after and investing in our youth as they are the future. He also said that he has learnt that rural children are resilient and determined and they go for what they want in life. May this be true of all the children in the POP Programme!
Thank you to all who played a part in getting this centre up and running. From builders to bricklayers to engineers and quantity surveyors. We are especially grateful to PPC who has made this centre possible.
The opening was a very special occasion, but the really special part will now start as children of the local community will visit the centre and join our youth programmes. We are so excited to see the centre filled with happy children learning as they play.
