Long Term Sustainability of the Goedgedacht Trust’s Projects

From it conception, the Goedgedacht Trust trustees strategy has been for the long-term sustainability of its work. At present we are still dependent on donors and friends from overseas and from South Africa; however we are working towards becoming sustainable through the following existing income streams

Weddings & Conferences

Weddings & ConferencesGoedgedacht farm is a perfect venue for a beautifully relaxed wedding or special occasion. We offer full weekend wedding options for couples who wish to enjoy a full weekend with their family and friends offering exclusive use of the whole Goedgedacht venue from Friday to Sunday. The farm sleeps 88 people in a variety of accommodation catering to all tastes and budgets.

Sip sundowners as the sun sets over the Swartland with Table Mountain framed as your backdrop;
Then gather around our new Boma Braai (BBQ) area for dinner with relatives and loved ones.
Read your vows under the old Oak tree in front of one of the oldest Cape Dutch farm houses in the country; or
Say “I do” in our beautiful light chapel which welcomes unions of all faiths and beliefs.

Weddings & ConferencesGoedgedacht Farm is a venue that celebrates all seasons in magnificent fashion; the colours change to suit the mood and we have venues to cater for all temperature tastes.

Our barn is a national heritage building fits 120 people comfortably seated. With a fire place and original old farm features the space is a gorgeous setting for a winter union. With welcomed winter rain our dams and the farm shows off every shade of green during winter and if you’re lucky you may get picturesque shots of you and your new spouse up against the Kasteelberg dusted with snow.

Come summer, the Jacaranda trees show off as the year draws to a close. Our busiest season (November till March) sees temperatures reaching mid 30 degrees Celsius and the farm dams offer a delightful reprieve from the summer sun. The Swartland is famous for the darkened colour of the Renosterveld (one of the world 6 floral Kingdoms) and the beautiful wheat coloured fields and dusty gravel roads. During summer we suggest you celebrate with friends under our fairy lit vine pergola and dance the night away under the milky way.

Goedgedacht Trading

TradingGoedgedacht farm was one of the first farms allocated to the Dutch colonists in 1704 and was one of 4 farms in the Swartland region of the Western Cape that brought vines to the area.

From humble beginnings of just a small basket of olives and an even smaller bucket of olive oil, Goedgedacht Trading started its operations in 2003 as the trading arm of the Goedgedacht Trust.

Our business has grown to supply two premier retailers in South Africa, as well as one in the United States.

Goedgedacht Trading is 100% owned by the Goedgedacht Trust and was established to make money through the sale of its products to change the lives of impoverished rural children in South Africa.

TradingWe are a proudly South African company, today producing high quality products and award winning olive oil, that supports the development work of The Path out of Poverty Programme (POP).

Our work is different, interesting and innovative in that we are marketing local South African produce to provide long term sustainability to a major anti-poverty programme.  Our response to the massive problem of poverty in SA is through creating local jobs and building the capacity of local people to contribute socially and economically to their own communities.

Help the Rural Child

Help the Rural ChildWe are so excited to announce the Goedgedacht Trust is opening its 11th Help the Rural Child charity shop.

In times when the disparity between those who have too much and those who have so little is abundantly clear on a daily basis, we decided to become the middle man.

Many of us live in excess with an abundance of things, which over time, just take up space cupboards, on shelves and get dusty in corners. Help the Rural Child are second hand charity shops dotted throughout Cape Town where we sell your generous donations on to people who want and need them. Be it clothes, books, bric-a-brac or furniture, we take the items you no longer need or want and we sell them on to loving new homes. 100% Profits made are pumped back into our POP programme.

Grow Peace UK

Grow Peace UKGrow Peace is the UK arm of the Goedgedacht Trust. All fundraising initiatives within the UK, for Goedgedacht and the POP programme, are managed and run from the UK office. We also process all UK donations which enables us to claim Gift Aid, increasing the donation value by 25% at no extra cost to the donor.

Many UK schools visit Goedgedacht every year to experience the work being done there and to work alongside the children. They return home having benefited greatly from the experience & inspired to carry on the work from the UK.

In the past 10 years 63 UK schools have visited us at Goedgedacht farm. Each one has helped make profound changes in the lives of rural children. We are enormously grateful to them all. All of us who have had the privilege of education will I am sure subscribe to our bye-line “LIFTING AS WE CLIMB”. Getting involved with POP is the most marvellous of win-win situations. We give you the opportunity to have a life changing experience and you help us to inspire poor children by sharing your skills. Most importantly these visits are FUN!!
